I once drove to Florida while on spring break in college at Umass. One of the guys who I went with, Jim Cannon, brought a copy of the RED Tape. We must have listened to it 20 times,and laughed like freaks. It took some research, but I now have my own copy and always bring it on long car rides.

When I was a younger man, about 15/20 years ago we I used to go drinking with my buddies, at the end of the night, we'd gather around a car with a cassette player, put in tube bar, and laugh our asses off. If anyone who wasn't familure with the tape was in the listening area, their curiosity would draw them over, and they would immediately be new fans of the tube bar, and most likely we had made new friends. As I got older, I got a job in a fire Dept. , I brought the tape in for the guys to hear , of course they laughed, and request a copy of tape for their own . The funny thing is a few of the guys couldn't get it out of their head. I would hear them muttering it under their breaths while doing house work , and many times for years after (and sometimes to this day), quoting Red's "your mothers been sucking my prick for many years now, so why don't you come suck it too " you were a classic Red, thanks for the memories .....RIP

These tapes are the real deal. These were not orchestrated, but were actual calls. The guy who made these tapes was brought to my house on a chilly night in 1974 and we sat and listened for about 2 hours. As funny as the stuff with Red was, the stuff with a female bartender named Judy was just as funny. There were also some odd calls to other people that had us falling on the floor. My friend who brought "JD" over, had been telling me about these tapes for months. In those days, "JD" did not let the tapes out of his sight and wanted to be there to see people's reaction. I can't believe almost 30 years later these tapes are being distributed around the world. I can understand how people think these tapes are made up, as you think, no one could be that stupid to keep falling for this guy's calls, but Red fell into it every time, so did Judy. It's too bad all of the stuff "JD" did is not here!

I went to the Tube Bar to pay homage to the home of the world's greatest phony phone call tape. It was the Summer of 1991 so Red was long gone but the place looked the same as when he was there and they even had the same 1948 dial phone that Red probably yelled into. It was a religious experience and I'm glad I went. Why don't ya come ova, ya cocksukkah?!?! I know ya don't worry!!! RED RULES!!!!

I had re-visited the Teen Beat CD version of the Tube Bar Tapes--which I had gotten from Caroline itself, about '88 or '89. I was a rep for them and got a cassette copy from Ashley Warren himself, with the CD to follow. Ashley, Keith Wood, Michael Bayler, Terry Tolken all of them had the thing committed to memory. I was soon hooked myself. While up in NY I looked up an old friend of mine who worked for the NBC radio network and knew Howard STern from Stern's days at WNBC. Gene Garnes, my friend, "booted" a copy off his own (which in grand tradition I booted for him) and gave it to Howard. Hence, Stern's use of Red on his own show. One of my best memories of the Tube Bar tapes involves Michael Bayler who left Caroline and moved back to England. He's fallen outta favor with the rest of the bunch, but I kept in touch with him and looked him up on a trip I took to the UK in '90. He'd left a lot of his US possessions over here so was starting back up in London with nothing but the clothes on his back, living with his wife or girlfriend, I can't remember which. Anyway, we all went out to dinner my first night in London and I presented him with a gift wrapped version of another booted copy of the tape. We drove back to his home, and since they had just moved into this residential area in the London suburbs, they did not have any stereo equipment hooked up yet. Late as it was (about 11.30 pm) we stayed in the car, popped it in the deck and rolled down the windows. We were laughing so hard and loud, we could see house after house in this row of typical London suburban homes, light up with people obviously being woke up rudely during a weeknight. Ashley said upon giving me the tape for the first time "There are only, like, 2 things in my life I ever laughed so hard at I cried, and this is one of them". I might add, it is the ONLY one where you'll cry laughing the 1523rd time you listen to it as well. Will Cornell

I was a bartender for Red in the early 70s. There was one chair in the joint and and it was occupied by guess who. He would direct who would get a bottle after hours or on Sunday. He would let you know if you could cash a check and if you would automically pour that man a double. I said man, because red didnt allow women in the joint. I LOVE the Tube Bar! I first heard the tapes in 1997 at a friends house and NEVER laughed so hard in my life! After getting my own copy from my friend I let others hear it and they were in stitches. Well, I guess I'm in the elite group. I've had a copy of the Tube Bar Tapes since the mid/late 70's. The thing about this fuckin' recording is that it NEVER, I mean NEVER, EVER fails to satisfy. I've played it thousands of times, made copies for my friends and family (now I make CD's of it, of course) for years, and I've never received one negative comment--not even from the most unlikely people. I haven't given copies to priests or rabbis yet, but I have a strong feeling even they would enjoy it. So, I play this stupid fucking thing--some days pretty much constantly--and it STILL makes me pull over onto the side of the road at times. Can you imagine? Thousands of "listens" and there's STILL an element of surprise to this thing? I know it's not possible, but there ya' go. I even use "Will you get down here, the bar's on fire" as my voice mail greeting for my cell phone. I'm what you might call "Tube Bar obsessed." I plan to go for help--maybe after the next beer. Al? This site is amazing. I first heard the RED TAPES in the summer of 1974. They are at least that old. My friends had them and I believe they knew the people who had made the tapes. I grew up in NY and was listening to that tape when I was in Jr High school, one of my friends asked me if I had it this week and it made me look it up on the web. I first heard the Tube Bar tape about 9 years ago and I swear I thought it was an excerpt from a movie. Being a former pranker myself I had a profound appreciation for this unique recording. I first heard Red as a 30-second time filler on a college radio station. I can still recall that moment, Red saying conversationally "Y'know, yer mother sucked my dick the other day, yeah.
